"to prevent possible damage to the transmission/transaxle case or other internal components, most experts agree that the parking brake should be applied before placing the gear selector into the park position, especially when parking on a hill. this precedure keeps the weight of the vehicle from being exerted entirely on the parking pawl and makes it easier to move the gear selector out of the park position."

The article is right.
Now, normally, after I stop the car, I put it in N (neutral), then pull the hand brake, release the (foot) brake which the car will roll a little bit (especially when it is on a slope), then put the car in P (park). I do it so often, now it is like an auto-procedure for me.
I used to park my car in front of the garage of the house I rent. It has a small slope (up). If don't do what I did, then sometimes it is hard to pull out from P (park), because after the car is in park and it will still roll backward until the gears stop the rolling (engaged). This will hurt the transmission.
