Wong has previous political experience working for the federal NDP party. If Wong is elected, she will be the first woman and the first person of Chinese descent to become Vancouver’s mayor. COPE ‘s wants to work to make Vancouver affordable and sustainable. COPE has some of the following goals for Vancouver:
Prioritize education by providing funding for smaller class sizes for elementary and secondary schools. Furthermore, COPE aims to change the current provincial educational funding model to prioritize public education and end funding for private schools.
Create affordable housing by establishing a Vancouver Housing Authority. Furthermore, COPE will work to build quality social housing in the Downtown Eastside and place a moratorium on condo development in the DTES in order to stop gentrification and displacement.
Improve Transit by working to reduce transit fares and invest in lower-cost bus and light rail transit services, specifically along the Broadway corridor.
Expanding park space in the city by creating 1.1 hectare of new park space per 1000 new citizens. Also, COPE aims to upgrade community and recreation center facilities.
Prioritize affordable living by proposing an amendment to the Vancouver Charter to set a municipal minimum wage for the City of Vancouver at $15/hr. -

Only COPE will build housing everyone can afford, unlike other parties largely funded by donations from big property developers.
Only COPE will give Vancouver a raise by increasing the minimum wage to $15 and working to implement a Living Wage.
Only COPE has a majority of women candidates and indigenous, youth, and renter candidates for City Council, School Board, and Park Board. -

Meena Wong is running for Mayor to build a Vancouver everyone can afford.
Meena will introduce a Duty on Vacant Properties to fund affordable and social housing. She’ll reduce the cost-of-living for working people by giving a $30/month U-Pass for all Vancouver residents who want it. She’ll give Vancouver a raise by fighting for a $15/hour Local Minimum Wage.
Born in Beijing, Meena moved to Hong Kong during the Cultural Revolution, then to Canada for university. In Toronto she worked for the Toronto Star and, from 1999 to 2002, as assistant to then-City Councillor Olivia Chow, now running for Mayor of Toronto. Meena has been a COPE activist since 2005. She also ran for the federal NDP in Vancouver South in 2011. Meena is currently a mental health support worker for Vancouver Coastal Health.
Meena Wong believes that to create Vancouver everyone can afford, we have to reduce the cost-of-living and give Vancouver a raise now. -
