The victims in a double fatal hit-and-run in Coquitlam on Wednesday night were married for 52 years.
Juan Jose Rosales, 76, and Marta Rosales, 66, leave behind five children and numerous grandchildren. Juan was a pastor at Iglesia de Dios Church.
The couple were killed in a hit-and-run accident at Gatensbury Street and Austin Avenue in Coquitlam.
They were a mere 130 metres away from their home when a man driving a Dodge Ram 1500 truck struck and killed the couple.
A motorcyclist that was following the truck followed the driver to their home and then called police.
One man was arrested near the vehicle last night. Police say he is in his late 80s or early 90s. No charges have been laid at this time.
“It’s a human life, how can he just run away,” says the couple’s daughter-in-law, Sara.
The family says the couple were actually waiting on the sidewalk when they were hit and were not even in the crosswalk. They say the truck jumped the curb and hit them. Police have not commented on these details at this time.
Coquitlam RCMP are still looking for witnesses to come forward.
Cpl. Jamie Chung with the Coquitlam RCMP says a vehicle has been located and secured, but not seized.
