Expanding Horizons
There's a new push to diversify historic export markets and get out from under the shadow of the elephant to our south.
To do that, Canada and BC are looking east and way south. For example, for the last six years Ottawa and Victoria have joined forces to woo the vast China markets.
In 2010, BC timber exports of China hit $687 million, up tenfold from 2003. The BC forestry industry expects that by 2013, China will be its biggest market
China is now British Columbia's largest importer of dimensional lumber and is displaying an increasing hunger for safe, predictable Canadian energy and resource commodities.
