I think you can do like this:
1. build a PC, better go for Home Server style - low power CPU/MB bundle + adequate HD spaces (3,4,5) + System (Linux, FreeBSD anything)
2. a router with Open-WRT or DD-WRT or Tomato, can run scripts on schedule.
3. in your script, you can let it Wake-on-LAN your Home Server
4. On your home server, setup start up scripts that do all the works you want. then upon finish all your works, turn it off
You save the power, your do the work, your got a lot customization over your own control
我现在就是要用3500L路由器+USB外接硬盘来做定时备份的事情。
PC多的是，我原来就是用PC来做定时备份的事，但我嫌耗电，噪音+占用一台服务器。 -
