2005-4-17 21:22It's pure politics! US want Japan taking more responsibility to balance off the increasing power of China government, politcially, even militarily.
And in every aspect, Japan are treating china as a potential enemy. Taiwang issue, oil field, text books. The political leader of Singapore just said recently: "一名具有理性与远见的日本领袖曾向他说过,如果美国和中共发生战争,过了二十、三十、四十或五十年,两国可以握手和解;但如果日本和中国交战,就算再过百年,两国也无法握手言和。"
You think "Man does not belong to his language or to his race", but there is a boundary inside of us. Racism, chauvinism, nationalism, terrorism, religions, capitalism, communism ... you name it.
[quote:6b4b3f9178="Steve"]This just proves that there is a world wide anti-Chinese conspiracy. Other people are just jealous of China's long history and present economic success.
Now that the Chinese economy is getting stronger and many city dwellers in China have good incomes, they need demonstrate more and destroy shops selling foreign goods. Now is the time for Chinese people to unite in their anger at other people and countries. Why stop at Japan? What about the US, Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, and Great Britain (who can forget the Opium War?).
That will really show those other countries. They are just lucky to have China making things for them. Who needs them?[/quote:6b4b3f9178] -

I used to visit China in the 1970s and then did not return until 2001. The first thing that struck me after my absence was the talk amongst Chinese people about 小日本 and the belief that China would eventually go to war with Japan.
I feel that this "us" versus "them" attitude amongst Chinese people is directed against anybody not Chinese. This attitude is evidenced by many if not most of the posts on this forum. I really wonder why people with such a tribal attitude emigrate. -

2005-4-18 03:30Two things about your post:
First, people do believe that china would eventually go to war with japan for lots of reasons now. But I don't think chinese are hostile to everybodies. Did you feel hostile from any chinese? Koreans are also hostile to Japanese. What about them? It has been a long time that Koreans protest against Japanese. There are even several Koreans pushing their government by suicides.
Secondly, people with such a tribal attitude do emigrate a lot. Irish, Korean, Greek, Turk, Muslem, Jew... People who can't love their enemies, leave their mother culture, history, language, even hatred, don't have reasons to emigrate, or shouldn't emigrate. Is it what you mean? You know what, I think it is you having an attitude problem.
You can speak, read, and write chinese well, doesn't mean you know everything about chinese, or you can judge chinese affairs. Hatred is not only existing in chinese-japan relation. They are all over the world.

[color=blue:7728e0803d]Steve, there are also a big percentage of Chinese do NOT bear that kind of view.
And trust me, those window-smashing, car-burning hooligans who scream the most will definitely NOT join the army if there is a war.
Any country has bottom feeding low lives. China has a huge population, so by percentage it also has tons of scum bags, they are full of energy and nowhere to release. But I don't think they represent the main stream of today's Chinese people.[/color:7728e0803d] -

I sure hope you are right. I should say as well that I very much appreciate your independent stand on many issues at Westca. I am sure this is difficult for you to do given the monolithic mindset of so many of the posters.
You and a very few others here at Westca restore my confidence in the sense of proportion and the sense of humour of Chinese people. -

从以前的:paranoid, garbage, what's your problem, political ******grapher, the freak show at the circus, 到现在的monolithic mindset。
