别和中文名字掺和在一块儿,硬要什么发音相近是取不出什么好英文名字的。真的。[/quote:5e2930ec0d]
I agree.
Pick a category that you want your name to based on. For example, you want the name to be easy to remember? Or have certain meanings?
Sometimes if you choose an unusual name, it can bring up other people's ineterest when introduce, and you can tell them why you pick that name, and start a conversation. -

When I was in China, I had my english name as Freeman because at the time I am out of work so I am a "free" man.But later I found out that this name is most used by black people, and somehow I am not a "free" man anymore that I abandon the name.
When I came here and I need an english name in my resume or in daily life. As I like the movie "Star Wars" by George Lucas, and the Luke sky walker impressed me most. So I choose "Luke" as my name.
As in my current company, there are many "Star Wars" fans just like me, so when I introduce them where my name comes from, it's so good that they admit it's a GOOD name. -

- 时间: 2005-6-17 03:44That problem confuses most chinese immigrants. And there are names ended with a "y" choosed by most chinese peoples. Like Jerry, Kerry, Henry, Marry, Larry, Jacky, Ricky, Viky, Amy, Fanny, Lucy, etc. And John, Paul, Mike, Frank, Steven, Helen, Susan, Lisa, Linda are also chinese people's favour. All these names are good, easy to be remember. Don't worry about they are too many people using it, these happened in the caucasians also.
I just have one point to reminder you. When you want to have a English first name, please consider the rhythm with your Last name. That's because the chinese last name is a little bit difficult to pronounce in English, and only have one syllable. I notice that the caucasian's name usually have more than 2 syllables, so when you say their names you will feel a rhythm to make it easy to pronounce. This is English's great charm. Make your English first name longer, and consider the pronounce with your chinese last name.
Never worry about a "name". Sometime, make it special is also a good idea. Once I met a Amercian in Shanghai, on his business card has his chinese name "孙悟空".You can do it!

原来我想通过短信请教你,但是考虑到可能还有其它朋友也有类似问题,故在此请教;
