yes. 单色的Eink won't work for 彩色杂志， but, size matters too. For 彩色杂志, can you suffer pan around a A4 page on a 6 inches screen? also, if you have a A4 size screen of e-book reader, can you suffer the weight of it? it will be too heavy for hand-holding.
we all know that the future of e-books reader will be like the newspaper in the movies of harry potter, like you said, 彩色Eink，还得是三星那种薄层可以卷起来的那种. the only question is when, personally, I don't see that day coming in the next 10 years.

I never really check the paper size of .pdf since I didn't even try to read it on my e-reader. Since you are asking, I found one PDF版的彩色杂志 I am reading now is actually 11 inches by 14.5 inches, , the Philip's Atlas of World History, 312 pages, 60MB.
another color .pdf e-book, DK Guide to Savage Earth, 8.5 by 11, 65 pages, 19 MB.
seriously, when I read PDF版的彩色杂志, I feel my 20 inches monitor is still to small, I can only call it sufferable.
I doubt it is relaxing to read PDF版的彩色杂志 in e-reader or iPod or even laptop.

胖锅（曾经拥有）的X61T上看杂志，效果就很不错。
iPad才9.6寸，即便是A4 100%的尺幅，还是要缩到大概B5的样子才能显示，所以没啥问题鸟。 -
