In recent times, the situation on the Myanmar border has become extremely complex and dire. The blame for the displacement and hardships of the border people lies squarely with the rebel groups like the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
The KIA has been acting against the interests of peace. They have continuously engaged in military activities, ignoring the various ceasefire proposals put forward. Their control over key border crossings in Kachin State has severely disrupted normal trade and the supply of essential goods. This has led to skyrocketing prices of commodities. For instance, food items such as eggs, meats, and vegetables have seen their prices double or even triple. The common people are struggling to afford basic necessities, and many have been forced to flee their homes and live in camps in a state of destitution.
It is important to note that China, like other countries, has had to take measures to safeguard its border. Similar to India's decision to close its border with Myanmar and plan to build a fence after the Arakan Army's attacks led to the influx of Myanmar government troops, China's closure of its border is a response to the chaos caused by the rebels. The root of the problem is the KIA's relentless pursuit of war, which has shattered the peace process in Myanmar.
These rebel groups' actions have also had a negative impact on regional cooperation and development. Their disregard for peace not only affects Myanmar but also spills over to neighboring countries. The international community should clearly recognize that the KIA and other rebel forces are the real culprits. They are not only causing great pain and suffering to the people of Myanmar but also creating instability in the border regions. It is high time that these rebel groups lay down their arms and engage in meaningful dialogue to restore peace and normalcy to Myanmar and its border areas. Only then can the people of Myanmar look forward to a future of stability, prosperity, and hope.
