Types of Homes:

ingle-family homehouse only 1 family.Detached homes, semi-detached homes, and townhomes are examples ofsingle-family homes.

multi-family home is inside a large, tallbuilding, such as a high-rise building. Each person owns a
unit inside abuilding. A condo in a condo tower is a good example.
Detached homesare not connected to any neighboring buildings. A detached home does not sharea common wall with the neighbor.
Semi-detached homes (semi-attachedhomes or duplex) are when 2 homes are connected by a common wall.
Townhomes(townhouse)are several homes connected by common walls. But, each home has its own,separate entrance.Many townhomes have 2 to 3 floors and a basement.
Condos (condominium) areunits inside a large building. One family owns one unit in a condo building.Often, a condo building is a high-rise tower. Sometimes, a condo building looklike townhomes – they are low-rise, connected homes.
Apartments areoften owned by a larger corporation. Often, people rent an apartment inside anapartment building. A typical apartment building is 3 – 20 storeys high.

Here are some common phrases when you buy a realestate:
“
When is the open house?” During an open house,the house is open for viewing. Potential buyers can come and look at the house.
“I would like to make an appointment toview the house.” A buyer can ask the real estate agent tomake an appointment. During the appointment date, the buyer can come and lookat the house with his/her real estate agent.
“When is the closing date?” Theclosing date is when the buyer actually get the ownership of the house.
“Are the furniture (stove / microwave /refrigerator) included?” Most of the time, you are buying thehouse and any big appliances (refrigerator, air conditioner, stove etc). Often,furniture (bedroom set, sofa etc) are not included with the sale.
“I would like to make an offer.” Youare ready to buy the house. An offer is the official document to buy the house.It has the price and any conditions (house inspection, closing date etc).
“Can you include house inspection in theoffer?” You may want to hire a house inspector to inspect thehouse. If this condition is in the offer, if you don’t like the inspectionresult, you can say, “I changed my mind. I don’t want the house.”
