I had been knowing this popular website for quite a long time without having the desire to explore it. One day somebody I know sent an invitation to me. So I thought I'd just give it a try. Usually I tend to like new stuff and plus, this is a good topic I can use to generate a conversation with some young kids and of course, to show that I am still young.
And that was basically it. My enthusiasm only lasted for a couple of days. Now I have had the account for about 4, 5 years, I could count the time I used the website by hands. I have to say it is a pretty boring place. First, this is not my type of connecting with friends. Sure you can keep them updated on Facebook. But are't you see each other all the time? At least you call them or send emails. If you do, the website is not that necessary, But if you don't have time to keep in touch with somebody except placing them on your friend list on Facebook, then he or she may not be a "friend". I am so overwhelmed to see people having tens of friends on Facebook and I really doubt if they even know all of them
A couple of days ago a girl I worked with sent me a request. We haven't see each other for several years. I liked her and I would love to say hi if I bump into her. But I have no interest in knowing what is going on with her now. I am just not that nosy. Plus, I know girls as socially active as her will probably have tons of people on her Facebook list. I don't see how far our relationship will go beyond that. So I deleted her request.
Maybe because I am too old. -
