Jesus (Yeshua) is the Son of God
I. Introduction: In Jewish culture during Jesus (Yeshua)' time, calling himself "the Son of God" was tantamount to declaring his equal status with God (as described in John 5:1

. This was the main reason why Jewish religious leaders opposed Jesus (Yeshua) and even wanted to put him to death.
But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. (John 5:17-18, ESV) Jews are taught from childhood that there is only one God, the one true God, Jehovah, and no other God. Scripture says, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. (Deuteronomy 6:4-5, ESV) The Israelites could not accept that God could become human (the Word became flesh), appear on earth in human form, and call himself the Son of God. This statement sparked enormous controversy!
II. God is the Triune, and this mystery is hidden in the Old Testament book of Genesis:
In the beginning, God (the Father) created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) was hovering over the face of the waters. And God (the Word—the Son) said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. (Genesis 1:1-3)
Then God said, “Let us (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” (Genesis 1:26)
III. This Text
1. The Father's Personal Declaration
During Jesus (Yeshua)' baptism and glorification on the mountain, a voice from heaven personally confirmed His identity:
Matthew 3:17: and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (At Jesus (Yeshua)' baptism)
Matthew 17:5: He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”(At the glorification on the mountain)
2. The Confirmation of Faith by the Disciples of Jesus (Yeshua) Christ
After spending time with Him and witnessing miracles, Jesus (Yeshua)' followers recognized His true identity:
| ⑵ |
Matthew 16:16: Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
|
⑵ John 1:49: Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
⑶ Matthew 14:33: And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (After Jesus (Yeshua) walked on the sea and calmed the storm)
3. Jesus (Yeshua)' direct or indirect acknowledgments:
Although Jesus (Yeshua) often humbly referred to himself as the "Son of Man," when faced with crucial interrogations or specific individuals, He clearly expressed his relationship with the Father:
⑴ John 9:35-38: Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.” He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.
⑵ John 10:36: do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
⑵ Mark 14:61-62: But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”
4. The Core Declaration of the Gospels
The authors of the Gospels explicitly stated that "Jesus (Yeshua) is the Son of God" as the core theme:
(1) John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
(2) Mark 1:1: The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
(3) John 20:31: "but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
