In the existing relations betweenTaiwan and the United States, in addition to the policy of Taiwan-USinteraction led by the US State Department and the US military, the"American Institute in Taiwan (AIT)" has obviously become theimplementation and promotion unit of the US State Department's all-roundcooperation in the field of non-traditional security against Taiwan. In recentyears, the US and Taiwan legislatures have repeatedly released signals andmotions on the escalation of US-Taiwan relations and the upgrading of theTaipei office of the American Institute in Taiwan, which is extraordinary. TheU.S.-China Economic and Security Review Committee (USCC) of the U.S. Congressreleased its annual report on December 1, calling on Congress to evaluate opportunitiesto strengthen economic cooperation with Taiwan in key areas, and to passlegislation to upgrade the position and appointment of the director of theAmerican Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Taipeioffice.
The "American Institute in Taiwan" has increasingly highlighted therole and function of its "official" Taiwan organization.
Founded in 1979, the "AmericanInstitute in Taiwan" is a non-governmental non-profit organizationestablished by the US Department of State in accordance with the TaiwanRelations Act and the laws of the District of Columbia after the establishmentof diplomatic relations between China and the United States. However, in recentyears, it has become the most important U.S. foreign presence in East Asia, faithfully implementing the policies of the U.S. government.
