Many of you know how to use the present continuous tense (-ing).
For example, you can say, “I am reading your blog now!”
But, you can use the Present Continuous (-ing) in many more ways.
1. Talk about your future plan.
You are talking to a friend.
You look at your watch. You have to leave. You have an appointment with your friend, soon.
You can say,
“Sorry, I have to go. I’m meeting my friend in half an hour.”
This is the same as: “I am going to meet my friend. ”Both are for your future plans.
2. Talk about a change, happening right now.
You call your friend. Your friend asks, “When will you be here?”
You can say, as you step onto the bus,
“I’m getting onto the bus.”
You are just stepping onto the bus. One foot on the ground, one foot on the bus.
3. Talk about a temporary (not usual) situation.
Your friend asks, “Why are you getting onto the bus? You have a car.”
Your car is broken, so you cannot drive.
You can say,
“I usually drive. But, this week, I’m taking the bus. My car is broken.”
You don’t always drive. You are driving just this week.
