Canada revisions show bigger job losses in December
Statistics Canada on Wednesday revised its December employment data to show a bigger loss of 11,300 jobs from a previously reported decline of 4,300, with a gain in full-time positions cut to 35,000 from 53,500.
Energy prices were the biggest factor in the increase, a rise of 8.4 per cent in the 12 months to April, after going up 4.6 per cent in March. Within that, gasoline prices have increased by 6.6 per cent in the past year, while natural gas prices have risen by 26 per cent.
Electricity prices rose by a more modest but still strong 4.6 per cent.
The federal government is poised to announce new legislation Wednesday that will make it a crime to distribute intimate images without the consent of the person in those pictures.
