President's Choice steaks, other meats, recalled due to possible E. coli

Canada's food inspection agency has issued a warning not to eat a wide selection of President's Choice fresh beef products because they might contain E. coli.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says in a news release that roasts, steaks and ground beef with best before dates of April 29 through June 16 are part of the alert issued Tuesday.

OTTAWA - The number of confirmed cases of swine flu in Canada has grown to 13 as health authorities in Alberta and Ontario reported their first outbreaks of the virus.

Seven new cases were reported on Tuesday: four in Ontario, two in Alberta, and one in British Columbia.

OTTAWA - Swine flu has entered Canada with a whimper but public-health authorities warn that a half-dozen mild cases reported in Nova Scotia and British Columbia could give way to a more serious outbreak.

All the Canadian illnesses are linked to Mexican travel, although the cases announced Sunday have been so innocuous that none of the patients in Nova Scotia or B.C. even required hospitalization.

The HIV prevalence rate in Vancouver is six times the national average, according to leading HIV/AIDS researchers. That prevalence rate includes those living with AIDS.

The study released Thursday also estimated that one in four sex workers in Vancouver are infected with HIV.

However, Susan Davis, who has worked in the sex trade for the past 23 years and has proposed a legal brothel to welcome visitors during the 2010 Olympics, said the number is “absolutely untrue.”
