If you have Network architecture design and concrete hands-on skill set in VoIP, Cisco or Firewall, it is not very hard to get a good job wherever in Canada.

If you were not in this field, get a foot into it first by accepting an entry level tech support career;
If you have these skill sets, be confident for yourself and learn and improve everyday!
ITAdvisory,, thank u very much for the info. I am totally new to networking, and i have never taken any courses related to it. Although my major was telecommunication when i was at university in China, i came to canada at 3rd yr when i was at U, and i didn't have a chance to explore to networking. I am thinking if i should take telecommunication at BCIT, then go for CCNA. Do u have any ideas if there may be a good chance to get into networking after finishing telecom diploma at BCIT? If i go for telecom, it is just going to take me 1 yr maximum.
Ok, I am assuming your major was "traditional telecom". I am not in telecom industry. But I do have a handful of clients that are telecom industry. Based on their opinions, what I can forsee is:
1) If you are happy with being a traditional telecom technicion and dealing with traditional telecom field, keep up with your current skills.
2) If you like challenges and fast-paced jobs, you need to step up to get more up-to-date skills such as VoIP since the whole industry trend is going towards to lower-cost and leading-edge technologies.
However, there is definitely a risk - the risk is that you have to invest that money and time to learn and keep up with it - life time!
But hey, everyone has too learn anyway even a housewife staying home has to learn new things too!
The risk is different for each individual. Last question is: are you going to take it?
Good luck, Ken. Personally, I prefer telecom, it's more stable. Do more research before making your decision, buddy.
Well, it depends on what your job roles are. I don't see it is stable since the last 5 years. Probably you can see employee unions in telus and bell that can sustain a little while. IT does not have unions.
There are always pros and cons for each. As I said, what risk level are you going to take? - It is up to you.
