The Tsawwassen First Nation is considering building a terminal south of Vancouver to export liquefied natural gas.
“TFNis committed to ensuring best practices are used in every aspect of thesupply chain,” the aboriginal group said in a statement Monday.
The Tsawwassen First Nation is located near Delta, south of Vancouver.
The proposal calls for five or six tankersper month to load up with LNG at Roberts Bank. Members of the FirstNation are scheduled to vote on the proposal on Dec. 16.
“Thestorage facility would link to a vessel-loading facility at RobertsBank via a new pipeline,” the Tsawwassen First Nation said, noting thatit has selected industrial property on its land for the planned LNGsite.
The band’s announcement comes asPremier Christy Clark tours FortisBC’s $400-million Tilbury LNGexpansion project in Delta, about 20 kilometres away.
Clark made building a liquefied natural gas industry a key plank of her re-election campaign in 2013.
