To get information from one place is copy, to get information from more than one place is research.
There are many instructions on the web about the Thunderbird. Generally speaking, the whole process was a breeze.
I experienced some problems while setting up Thunderbird to get email from Yahoo mail server. I searched from several different places to get the problem solved. I would like to write down the solutions I used. Hope it helps someone.
1.Problem:
“Could not connet to server localhost; the connections was refused”
Reason: Some OS's block ports below 1024
like Lunix (Ubuntu is just a flavor of Lunix)
Solution:
Tools – Add ons – WebMail – Preferances
Change the pop server port to 1100, smpt server port to 1200 (you can alos try some other number which is greater than 1024)
Go to Aaccount Settings -- Outgoing Server(SMTP) –Webmail localhost
to edit the SMTP accordingly.
2.Problem:
“Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server localhost responded: negative vibes from xxxx@yahoo.com”
