1) The suit in NY will be thrown out.
2) If a different verdict is reached in China that will make the Chinese legal system look bad and agitate the anti-Westerners in China at a time when China wants to calm things down.
3) The "reasonable China" propaganda offensive has already started with the promise to meet a representative of the Dalai Lama.
The Chinese people who have been whipped up into an anti Dalai Lama, anti-Western frenzy will be left wondering what happened as they wake up from the latest in a long line of government inspired 群众运动。

I kinda agree with some of the points in this thread. But there are some unpredictable factors. The suit in NY might not be thrown out and CNN might cave in due to financial reasons. If that's the case, the plaintiff in Beijing might not need the case against CNN anymore.
I do not agree what is happening in China and other countries are "government inspired 群众运动. " Chinese People around the world can see ,think and act independently. What they've shown to the world need not be a "government inspired 群众运动. "

To some extent our ability to think independently is an illusion since we are influenced by our education and what we see and hear. Nevertheless it is an important illusion since we all need to be responsible for our lives, in my view.
The greater the variety of information and views, especially during our formative years the greater the likelihood that we will think independently, i.e. differently from others.
The uniformity of view here at Westca, the lack of dissenting views from within China, for example the lack of any expression of sympathy for the right of Tibetans to determine their own fate, the lack of interest in the Tibetan view of their history, all this gives the impression that the level of independence of thinking of many Chinese people is limited.
