Twitter has told employees that they can keep working from home “forever” if they wish.
推特告诉员工称,如果他们愿意,他们可以“永远”在家办公。
In a statement, Twitter said it was “one of the first companies to goto a WFH model in the face of COVID-19, but [doesn’t] anticipate beingone of the first to return to offices.”
推特在一份声明中表示,推特是“最早在疫情面前实行远程办公制的公司之一,但不会是最先返岗的”。
The company said if employees are in a role and situation thatenables them to work from home and they want to continue doing so“forever,” then “we will make that happen.”
推特称,如果员工的职位和处境适合在家工作,并希望“永远”在家工作,那么“我们会让其实现”。
"If not, our offices will be their warm and welcoming selves, withsome additional precautions, when we feel it’s safe to return,” thestatement reads.
The company said with very few exceptions, offices won’t open beforeSeptember. It added when they do open it will be “careful, intentional, office by office and gradual.” It said there will also be no businesstravel before September “with very few exceptions” and no in-personcompany events for the rest of 2020.
"We’re proud of the early action we took to protect the health of ouremployees and our communities. That will remain our top priority as wework through the unknowns of the coming months,” it said.
The company’s acceptance of a mostly remote workforce predates thecoronavirus pandemic. On the company’s fourth-quarter 2019 earnings callin February, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey embraced the idea of remote workwhile expressing dissatisfaction that so many of Twitter’s of employeesare based in San Francisco.
"Our concentration in San Francisco is not serving us any longer, andwe will strive to be a far more distributed workforce, which we willuse to improve our execution,” he said at the time.
Other tech giants have updated their employees on work from homemeasures for the foreseeable future, as experts expect remote work tobecome much more common after the pandemic, with business travel rarer.
Facebook said last week that most of the company’s employees will beallowed to continue to work from home through the end of 2020, whileGoogle parent Alphabet said employees can expect a “staggered” and“incremental” return to the office starting in June, but that someemployees would probably be working from home for as long as the rest ofthe year.
