Population health experts warn there is every likelihood that if measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus are successful, but then removed, the virus will rebound.
To prevent that rebound, experts have suggested suppression measures such as social distancing and closing schools could be intermittently lifted and put back in place. That would stop the virus from rebounding too much but at the same time provide relief from the extraordinary measures to stop the virus that includes restrictions on the size of gatherings, pub closures and restaurants being open only for takeout.
If this method was employed, the B.C. public could face a see-saw of restrictions being lifted and put back in place.
University of B.C. applied-science researchers believe they have an approach that public health authorities could consider to smooth out those bumps.
