Steamed Asian pears with rock sugar is a popular traditional Chinese home remedy for cough relief. According to traditional Chinese medicine, it can reduce excessive phlegm to effectively ease coughs caused by the common cold. It is also a delightful dessert. You can serve it warm or cold. Ingredients:
Asian pear 3
Yellow rock sugar 25g
Dried white fungus. 3g
Tendril-leaved fritillary bulb 5g
Dried goji berries 20g
Directions:
1. Soak the white fungus in water for over 1 hour
2. Rub the pears with a bit of baking soda and water, rinse off
3. Method A: wash the soaked white fungus, cut to small pieces into a bowl, get rid of the yellow part; peel a pear, cut the flesh to small pieces, put both the peel and the flesh into the bowl, get rid of the core; add 15g of yellow rock sugar and 100ml of water; Method B: cut off the top part of a pear(about 1/4 to 1/3 of the total height), use a metal spoon to remove the core, fill the hole with 10g of yellow rock sugar, put the top part back; Method C: similar to Method B, with one more ingredient to fill the hole, which is 5g of tendril-leaved fritillary bulb
4. Bring a pot of water to a boil, steam for 1 hour, add some dried goji berries 5mins before it’s done
