Mutual Respect is a Coalition Vancouver comprehensive policy initiative to keep our roadways clear, our commerce flowing and our residents safer.
It has 4 primary components:
Council will pass much more robust “Street and Traffic” City By-Laws.
Immediately, 50% of all City of Vancouver Parking Enforcement Officers will be retrained or let go.
Newly trained By-Law officers to enforce a basic respect for each mode of transport – with the goal of maximizing the volume of safe traffic flow.
Those remaining in Parking Enforcement will be re-directed toward congestion issues and will focus upon ticketing AND towing vehicles impeding rush hour traffic on main arterial roads.

Clean City – A green city is impossible without having a clean city. We will be rolling out specific initiatives to clean up our city, everything from needles in parks, to overflowing public trash cans, to graffiti.
The affordable housing crisis is a heart-breaking issue for those affected. Coalition Vancouver will do everything inside of its power to ease the crisis both in the short term and in the long term.

Stop the cycle of reckless housing policy. Coalition Vancouver will not sell 1 more square inch of city land.
On new builds, the focus will be on purpose-built rental housing and smaller, non-luxury affordable housing units for Vancouverites.
Coalition Vancouver will use a combination of zoning and tax policy to direct this to ensure that these new rental and affordable units are built in and around major transportation hubs.

Coalition Vancouver will work hard to ensure that the heritage rules of each and every community are amended so that they work for each neighbourhood and the city as a whole.
Committees will be struck in each neighbourhood to determine what pre-1940 houses should be preserved and which should not to ensure neighbourhoods maintain their heritage.

Against the “Making Room” policy
This is a sell-out policy by the NPA and Vision Vancouver which will drastically change the character of existing neighbourhoods. Unlike other parties, Coalition Vancouver has no ties to developers or big business. We are 100% for the people.
The affordable housing crisis is NOT a supply problem. In the last 15 years, for every new household, the region has added 1.19 net units of housing. The problem is the type of housing being built. Vancouver has built far too many ‘luxurious’ condos and far too few affordable housing units. No millionaire has a problem finding a home – this is about affordability.
Coalition Vancouver is committed to ensuring purpose-built rental and co-op housing are a priority.
Coalition Vancouver is committed to focusing upon building smaller more affordable housing units to offer young people and those less advantaged a path to property ownership.

Coalition Vancouver additionally supports the zoning of 1 additional rental unit per stand-alone home and a laneway house in neighbourhoods that support It.
This is to reduce pressure immediately.
We understand the need to deliver housing for all stages of life. Whether that is a young adult just starting out to empty nesters who no longer need the space. A city-wide, neighbourhood focused, plan is what we are focusing on.
