1. When the car is cold, start the car and let it runs a few minutes (2-5). If your car is hot, let it cool for 2-3 hours
2. Open the hood and open the engine oil cap
3. Find the drain-plug, put a bucket under it and unscrew it. The drain plug is located at the bottom of the engine block. Make sure you get a bucket with a large catching area, otherwise you will have motor oil spill and it is hard to clean. Normally I also put a big piece of cupboard under the bucket, just in case.
4. Let the oil drain. Go have a beer/coke/smoke... Normally I let it drain for 15 -30 minutes
5. Pour ~1/2L of fresh oil from the top and let it drain out. Put the drain plug back on. Don't overtight it though。(补充:最好换一个新的放机油罗丝帽垫圈。)
6. Move the bucket below the oil filter, unscrew the oil filter. Be careful. There is motor oil in the oil filter as well.
7. Wipe the area with a clean cloth (I used an old T-shirt)
8. Wipe some fresh oil on the gasket of the new filter. Follow the instructions on the filter box. Normally it should be hand tight it until the gasket touch the engine block, then turn another 3/4 turn.
9. Put fresh oil in.
10. Start the car and run it until it reach normal operating temp. Turn off the car, check for leak.
11. Bring the used oil and filter to CT for recycle.
If this is your first time, then it is normal. Once you do it a few more times, you will find it very easy.
There are a few tools I will recommend you to get:
1. Disposable gloves from Dollar Store. Last night I just bought a pack from the one in Landsdowne mall. Normally I just wear one hand.
2. Oil filter wrench. It is a like a cap which to help you tight up the oil filter. It helps a lot BUT make sure you don't over tight the filter. ~$5 from CT.
3. Oil change container (bucket). It is big enough so it can avoid oil spill on the floor.
